This study found virtual reality (VR) immersion during hand surgery reduced sedative doses and post-anesthesia care unit length of stay without reducing patient satisfaction. These first of their kind findings are an important step in efforts to decrease anesthetic use since over-sedation can cause clinical complications and poor outcomes for some patients.

Riccardo Pinciroli, MD, Director of Transplant Anesthesia, reacted to recent news that New England Donor Services selected BIDMC as a Donor Special Care Center in Massachusetts. “This upgrades our growing transplant program and positions us to create a valuable partnership with the organ procurement organization to better serve donors and families and enhance research and education activities in this field.”
