On June 3, the Department of Radiology hosted the 9th Annual Morris Simon Research Day event in the Klarman Conference Center at BIDMC Boston. This year’s Simon Day attracted a large audience of trainees, faculty, research faculty, and fellows, who marveled at the breadth and depth of science, discovery, innovation, and exploration. Adeel Seyal, MD, (Mentor: Olga Brook, MD) and Edgar Martinez, MD, (Mentor: David Hackney, MD), have each been awarded a prestigious 2025 Harvard Medical School Shore Fellowship Award. The fellowship is part of The Eleanor and Miles Shore Faculty Development Awards Program at Harvard Medical School. The award may be used for protected time from clinical, teaching, or other responsibilities to pursue academic work, including research, or develop a new clinical or teaching program. Elizabeth (Beth) Mittendorf, MD, PhD, MHCM, named chief of new Division of Breast Surgery. BIDMC and HMFP are establishing a Division of Breast Surgery within the Department of Surgery, and renowned surgeon and researcher Elizabeth Mittendorf, MD, PhD, MHCM, will join our organization this fall to lead it. Dr. Mittendorf will play an important role in the collaboration among Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI), BIDMC, and HMFP to establish New England’s only free-standing cancer hospital. Theodore (Ted) Hong, MD, will join us in September as the new vice chair of integration and operations in the Department of Radiation Oncology at BIDMC, and Professor of Radiation Oncology at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Hong will also serve as vice chair of integration and collaboration operations of Radiation Oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute as part of the Dana-Farber Beth Israel Deaconess Cancer Collaboration. The Division of Surgical Oncology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is seeking a breast surgical oncologist for the BreastCare Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. The position will be reporting to the Chief of Breast Surgical Oncology at BIDMC, and will also hold clinical privileges at BIDMC and participate in Tumor Board and Multidisciplinary Clinic at BIDMC. The Department of Surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) is seeking an academic clinician, leader and scholar to serve as Chief of the Division of Breast Surgery and Co-Director of the BreastCare Center at BIDMC. Candidates should be board certified in general surgery, fellowship trained in breast surgical oncology, and be eligible for a full Massachusetts medical license.
