About Medicine

Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center’s (HMFP) Department of Medicine’s 12 clinical divisions and nine research divisions combine to provide expert, compassionate patient care; to further knowledge through cutting-edge basic, translational, and clinical research; and to educate the next generation of healthcare leaders through superbly effective and innovative teaching programs. Our culture informs our practice in all our missions: as we seek constantly to provide the kind of care to every person that we would want our own family members to receive, as we perform research that has a strong impact on improving health, and as we strive to educate our students and trainees to become outstanding clinicians and leaders in clinical care, teaching, and research.

The Department endeavors to create an environment where our physicians can thrive and forge their own paths as leading clinicians, educators, and/or researchers. We are home to numerous societies and programs focused on wellness; diversity, equity and inclusion; mentorship; professional development; research excellence; and more. Our faculty are hands-on educators as we train students, residents, and fellows as a core site for Harvard Medical School students and through our Internal Medicine Residency and 27 specialty Fellowship programs. Our physicians provide 315,000+ outpatient visits annually and our primary care practice, HealthCare Associates, cares for 40,500+ patients in the Greater Boston area.
