Dr. Bala Subramaniam and his team at the Sadhguru Center for a Conscious Planet have been awarded a multimillion-dollar award from the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Group (PCORI) for a new study, “SCOPE Trial,” that will test a novel intervention involving prehabilitation with sleep enhancement, cognitive exercise, and extended postoperative analgesia to reduce post-operative delirium. Dr. Subramaniam will lead this multicenter trial done in collaboration with MGH, Columbia, and Ohio State University. This grant was selected for PCORI funding through a highly competitive review process in which patients and other stakeholders joined clinician scientists to evaluate the proposals. The SCOPE trial will provide important evidence that can potentially decrease postoperative delirium in heart surgery patients. PCORI is an independent, nonprofit organization authorized by Congress in 2010.

Dr. Barouch, Chief of the Center for Virology and Vaccine Research, was awarded the 2023 Paragon Award for Research Excellence from the Doris Duke Foundation in recognition of his work, which has advanced knowledge toward the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of human disease.
The Franklin Epstein Society, under the leadership of Steven Freedman, MD, PhD, received 2023 Program Award for a Culture of Excellence in Mentoring (PACEM) from Harvard Medical School. They were selected in recognition of all their work to foster our early career trainees and scientists by providing a longitudinal support program and pipeline to establish careers in research excellence.
