On Nov. 17, 2025, the HMFP Service Milestone Celebration honored the more than 300 physicians who are marking 5 - 50 years with our organization. It was the perfect time of year to get together to celebrate their service, as well as connect in person and enjoy conversations with our colleagues. With all the milestones we have achieved in the past year, it is an exciting time to be part of HMFP

The literary magazine is produced by the Katherine Swan Ginsburg Humanism in Medicine Program at BIDMC, led by Jon Crocker, MD, a hospitalist.

Victor Polshin, MD, has been selected as our next Director of Orthopedic Anesthesia. Dr. Polshin, who joined BIDMC in 2019, has been a floor manager at our main campus and also managed our clinical site at 1 Brookline Place. As director, he will standardize care for orthopedic surgery across our network, help integrate our expanding educational presence at New England Baptist Hospital, and collaborate with orthopedic surgeons to ensure that we continue to provide cutting edge care to these patients. Dr. Polshin received his MD at Boston University School of Medicine. He did his anesthesia residency at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, and a fellowship at Montefiore Medical Center in New York.

Congratulations to Dr. Jake Hoyne, Emergency Medicine physician at BIDMC and HMFP, who served as the local Principal Investigator for the Queen of Hearts Registry Validation Study—recently presented as a Late-Breaking Science session at TCT 2025 and published in JACC: Cardiovascular Interventions. The study showed that an AI-powered ECG algorithm detects heart attacks faster and more accurately, improving outcomes and reducing unnecessary procedures. Click the header to learn more.
