Older Americans face significant barriers to advanced cardiovascular imaging, with cardiac CT, MRI, and PET scanners concentrated in large urban hospitals. A new nationwide study of over 64 million older U.S. Medicare patients has found that, despite a slight increase in the number of cardiovascular imaging centers between 2018 and 2021, access to advanced heart imaging remains limited, particularly for patients outside major metropolitan areas. Hadine Joffe, MD, MSc, has joined Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) and its physician organization, Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians at BIDMC (HMFP), as Chair of the Department of Psychiatry. In this role, Joffe will lead the department’s broad range of clinical services, research and education programs. “Our BIDMC and HMFP communities will benefit greatly from Dr. Joffe’s wealth of experience as a leader, mentor and researcher,” said Alexa B. It was the perfect time of year to get together to celebrate their service, as well as connect in person and enjoy conversations with our colleagues. Victor Polshin, MD, has been selected as our next Director of Orthopedic Anesthesia. Dr. Polshin, who joined BIDMC in 2019, has been a floor manager at our main campus and also managed our clinical site at 1 Brookline Place. As director, he will standardize care for orthopedic surgery across our network, help integrate our expanding educational presence at New England Baptist Hospital, and collaborate with orthopedic surgeons to ensure that we continue to provide cutting edge care to these patients. Dr. Polshin received his MD at Boston University School of Medicine. He did his anesthesia residency at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, and a fellowship at Montefiore Medical Center in New York.
