Inaugural Chief, Division of Interventional Psychiatry, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Department of Psychiatry

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Subha Subramanian, MD, as the inaugural Chief of the Division of Interventional Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, effective July 1, 2026. Dr. Subramanian serves as Director of the Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Service within the Center for Noninvasive Brain Stimulation at BIDMC and holds an academic appointment as Instructor in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.

In this newly established role, Dr. Subramanian will provide strategic and operational leadership across the Department’s interventional psychiatry programs, encompassing TMS, ECT, and esketamine services, while sustaining her collaborative partnership with the Center for Noninvasive Brain Stimulation in the Department of Neurology. Her priorities will include fostering integrated, cross-program collaboration, expanding patient access, streamlining referral pathways, and advancing a unified, evidence-based model of care that reflects the highest standards of academic medicine.

A nationally recognized expert in neuromodulation and treatment-resistant depression, Dr. Subramanian has distinguished herself since joining BIDMC in 2022 through exemplary contributions to clinical care, research, education, and programmatic development. Her leadership in the TMS Clinic has been marked by meaningful growth and operational improvements, including the implementation of an accelerated one-day protocol, strengthened symptom-based outcomes data collection, and an emphasis on patient-centered care.
