As reported by RSNA News, "The human brain develops shortcuts, or heuristics, to quickly process large amounts of information. While sometimes helpful, these cognitive processes can become biases that distort perceptions and lead to inaccurate judgments." According to a RadioGraphics article, which is based on the work of BIDMC Radiology Residency alumna Dr. Se-Young Yoon and current Emergency Radiology/Body MRI faculty member Dr. Karen Lee, "awareness of one’s own cognitive biases and their unintended effects can help radiologists prevent diagnostic errors." Dr. Marwan Moussa, Vascular & Interventional Radiology, has been selected to receive a two-year, $200,000 American Heart Association (AHA) Innovative Project Award for his work entitled "Paradigm Shift in Primary Aldosteronism Management Utilizing Cell-Free DNA." The purpose of the Innovative Project Award is "to support highly innovative, high-impact research that could ultimately lead to critical discoveries or major advancements that will accelerate the field of cardiovascular and/or cerebrovascular research,” as stated by the AHA. Vascular & Interventional Radiology Chief Dr. Muneeb Ahmed was honored as a Boston Red Sox Medical All-Star at Fenway Park on Friday, June 27. At each Friday home game during the regular season, the Red Sox honor a "Medical All-Star" from BIDMC—the Official Hospital of the Boston Red Sox—as part of the pre-game festivities. The selected staff member is chosen for having gone above and beyond for patients in an exceptional way, and/or having made significant achievements in their role at BIDMC or medical research. On June 3, the Department of Radiology hosted the 9th Annual Morris Simon Research Day event in the Klarman Conference Center at BIDMC Boston. This year’s Simon Day attracted a large audience of trainees, faculty, research faculty, and fellows, who marveled at the breadth and depth of science, discovery, innovation, and exploration. Adeel Seyal, MD, (Mentor: Olga Brook, MD) and Edgar Martinez, MD, (Mentor: David Hackney, MD), have each been awarded a prestigious 2025 Harvard Medical School Shore Fellowship Award. The fellowship is part of The Eleanor and Miles Shore Faculty Development Awards Program at Harvard Medical School. The award may be used for protected time from clinical, teaching, or other responsibilities to pursue academic work, including research, or develop a new clinical or teaching program. We are delighted to announce that Diana Litmanovich, MD, will be expanding her Vice Chair portfolio and taking the lead on several exciting new programs in support of our Practitioner, Practice, and Population portfolio. Under this expanded umbrella, Dr. Litmanovich will oversee the establishment of a Practice Marketing, Branding, and Communications committee, serve as Chair of a new Practice Awards and Recognition committee, and serve as the Executive Sponsor of our ever-expanding Radiology Affinity and Interest Groups.
