The Bouxsein group employs a multidisciplinary strategy with state-of-the-art technologies to study the causes, detection and treatment of skeletal fragility. Our ultimate goal is to reduce the burden of fractures due to osteoporosis and other bone disorders.

Ruma Bose, MD received a grant from the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research for her project, “Developing proficiency in rescue echo guided crisis management using a modular competency-based curriculum for advanced learners in anesthesia.” These 2-year $100,000 grants advance the knowledge of anesthesiologists in techniques of anesthesiology education.
This study found virtual reality (VR) immersion during hand surgery reduced sedative doses and post-anesthesia care unit length of stay without reducing patient satisfaction. These first of their kind findings are an important step in efforts to decrease anesthetic use since over-sedation can cause clinical complications and poor outcomes for some patients.
