Todd Sarge, MD, receives endowed chair in critical care medicine

Dr. Todd Sarge, Vice Chair of Critical Care Medicine, is the inaugural recipient of the new “Alan Lisbon, MD Chair in Critical Care Medicine at BIDMC.” This newly endowed chair will support education and research in Critical Care Medicine.

This Chair is named in honor of Dr. Alan Lisbon, a pioneer in critical care medicine at BIDMC who has been with the Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine since 1976. Dept. Chair, Dr. Daniel Talmor, spoke about the contributions of Drs. Lisbon and Sarge.

“Dr. Lisbon directed our ICUs for many years and is the reason we have such a strong presence there. His leadership was based on the premise that everyone who works in the ICU is valued, equal and respected. He set a standard for clinical excellence and collaboration that remains today. Dr. Sarge has brought ICU collaboration to a new level, and we have excellent relationships there. He has been a mentor and teacher to countless young faculty members. During the COVID pandemic, he was a true hero, tirelessly organizing, coordinating teams and caring for patients. It is a great pleasure to honor both these distinguished physicians with this new endowed Chair.”
