Iverson named new vice chair, Quality, Safety, and Outcomes Equity, Department of OB/GYN

Ronald E. Iverson, Jr. MD, MPH will be joining Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) and Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians at BIDMC (HMFP) this October as the vice chair of Quality, Safety and Outcomes Equity in the Department of OB/GYN at BIDMC.

A general OB/GYN, Dr. Iverson began his journey in quality improvement and safety as a provider leading hospital change. He trained in 2015 at the Institute of Healthcare Improvement as an Improvement Advisor. He has been involved at the OB/GYN department level, implementing care bundles and other structured improvement as well as participating in hospital-wide projects and trainings. He has experience in the use of simulations to build and reinforce quality efforts. At the state level, he leads the Massachusetts Perinatal Neonatal Quality Improvement Network (PNQIN), a multidisciplinary group focused on decreasing maternal morbidity and mortality and eliminating inequities in care and outcomes through collaborative quality improvement implementation. He participates in national quality and safety improvement through the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology’s Alliance for Innovation on Maternal (AIM) Health team, and co-developed Opioid Use during Pregnancy bundle.

Dr. Iverson graduated from Tufts University Medical School in 1992 with an MD/MPH and served his OB/GYN residency at Tufts New England Medical Center in 1996. Dr. Iverson worked at Massachusetts General Hospital from 1996-2006, then at Boston Medical Center (BMC) from 2006-2024. At BMC he served as medical director of Labor and Delivery, vice chair of obstetrics, director of quality and safety, and director of credentialing and privileging for the department of OB/GYN. He focused on developing a culture of safety by encouraging teamwork and development of safety guidelines and algorithms for the collaborative BMC team. He has been working at MGH since 2024.
