Drs. Marwan Moussa and Yu-Ming Chang Awarded National Research Funding
Dr. Marwan Moussa, Vascular & Interventional Radiology, has been selected to receive a two-year, $200,000 American Heart Association (AHA) Innovative Project Award for his work entitled “Paradigm Shift in Primary Aldosteronism Management Utilizing Cell-Free DNA.”
The purpose of the Innovative Project Award is “to support highly innovative, high-impact research that could ultimately lead to critical discoveries or major advancements that will accelerate the field of cardiovascular and/or cerebrovascular research,” as stated by the AHA.
The award promotes unexplored ideas, and “research deemed innovative may introduce a new paradigm, challenge current paradigms, look at existing problems from new perspectives, or exhibit other uniquely creative qualities.”
Additionally, Dr. Yu-Ming Chang, section chief, Neuroradiology, has been awarded a one-year, $60,000 Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Research & Education Seed Grant for his work entitled “Non-Invasive Quantification of Glymphatic Function in Patients with Stroke.”
According to the RSNA, this grant “gives investigators around the world the chance to define objectives and test hypotheses in preparation for larger grant applications at corporations, foundations and government agencies. The seed data from the projects we fund will give investigators a better idea of [the] feasibility and directionality of research before applying for more funds from other sources.”
Of note, Dr. Chang’s application was among the top-ranked by the RSNA Board of Trustees of the Research & Education Foundation.
