Dr. Muneeb Ahmed Honored as Boston Red Sox Medical All-Star

Vascular & Interventional Radiology Chief Dr. Muneeb Ahmed was honored as a Boston Red Sox Medical All-Star at Fenway Park on Friday, June 27.

At each Friday home game during the regular season, the Red Sox honor a “Medical All-Star” from BIDMC—the Official Hospital of the Boston Red Sox—as part of the pre-game festivities. The selected staff member is chosen for having gone above and beyond for patients in an exceptional way, and/or having made significant achievements in their role at BIDMC or medical research.

BIDMC received more than 200 nominations this year and, after careful review by the selection committee, Dr. Ahmed was chosen as a 2025 Medical All-Star for his immense contributions to healthcare and medical research. Excerpts from his nomination are included below.

In addition to being recognized before the 7:10 p.m. matchup against the Toronto Blue Jays, Dr. Ahmed was surprised by members of his IR team, who arrived at Fenway to cheer him on in person. BIDMC also awarded him four box seats for the game, which he proudly shared with his family.

For 20+ years, Dr. Ahmed has built a world-class interventional radiology program, expanded BIDMC’s tumor ablation and interventional oncology practice, and developed a national reputation for clinical interventional oncology expertise and an independent line of research into the systemic effects of tumor ablation. He holds the prestigious Gary J. Becker Young Investigator Award from the Society of Interventional Radiology, served as the President of the Society of Interventional Oncology, and is the Miriam H. Stoneman Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School.
