Distinguished Honors Conferred Upon Dr. Jonathan B. Kruskal: American Roentgen Ray Society and Society of Abdominal Radiology Gold Medals​

Jonathan B. Kruskal, MB, ChB, PhD, has received the 2026 Gold Medal from the American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS) — the society’s highest honor — adding to a distinguished record of national recognition that also includes the 2026 Society of Abdominal Radiology Gold Medal. The ARRS Gold Medal was presented during the Opening Ceremony of the 2026 Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh, honoring his exceptional leadership, scholarship, and service to the field of radiology.

Dr. Kruskal is the Melvin E. Clouse Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School and Chair of the Department of Radiology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. A former ARRS President (2021–2022), he has authored more than 250 peer‑reviewed manuscripts and is widely recognized for his impactful work in peer learning, quality improvement, and physician well‑being.

Dr. Kruskal came to the United States in 1987 as a postdoctoral research fellow at Vanderbilt University before joining Harvard Medical School’s New England Deaconess Hospital. Over the course of his career, he rose to Division Chief of Abdominal Radiology, Vice Chair for Practice Quality Improvement, and ultimately, Chair of Radiology at BIDMC in 2008.

An internationally recognized lecturer and educator, he has held numerous leadership roles, including President of the Society of Abdominal Radiology, Deputy Editor of RadioGraphics, chair of multiple American College of Radiology committees, and service on the ACR Board of Chancellors.
