Elliot L. Chaikof, MD, PhD

Elliot L. Chaikof, MD, PhD, is chair of the Department of Surgery, surgeon-in-chief at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and the Johnson and Johnson Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Chaikof received his BA and MD from Johns Hopkins and a PhD in Chemical Engineering from MIT. He completed training in general surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital and in vascular surgery at Emory University, where he served as the John E. Skandalakis Professor and Chief of Vascular Surgery. Dr. Chaikof was responsible for developing the national clinical practice guidelines that have established the standard of care for patients with an aortic aneurysm and is the editor of one of the leading textbooks in the field of vascular surgery with translations in Chinese and Portuguese. Dr. Chaikof is a member of the National Academy of Medicine.
